The PSA-MIMS Intern Pharmacist of the Year Award recognises an intern pharmacist who has demonstrated outstanding performance in their development as a professional pharmacist in community or hospital practice and is a role model amongst Early Career Pharmacists. MIMS Australia sponsored the Award at a state/territory and national level.

Joseph was rewarded for being a leader since the first days of his internship and always looking for ways to improve the processes and procedures in the pharmacy to allow staff to deliver better service to patients and the community. His referees said Joseph helped “streamline dispensary ordering processes, improving the way prescriptions were processed and enabling clearer communication between front of shop staff and pharmacists.”
PSA National President Joe Demarte said finalists were judged on their achievement in leadership in pharmacy, commitment to patient care and the safe use of medicines, initiative in pharmacy service delivery and peer and professional engagement.
“I sincerely congratulate Joseph on winning this significant Award which is a great recognition for young pharmacists displaying outstanding ability,” Mr Demarte said.
The $4,000 prize goes towards attending the 2016 International Pharmaceutical Society (FIP) conference in Buenos Aires.
MIMS Business Development Manager Dinah Graham said MIMS welcomed the opportunity to support excellence use and safety in medication and congratulated Joseph on his success.
Mr Demarte thanked MIMS for its strong support: “MIMS has partnered with PSA for many years and is the leading supplier of trusted, quality, independent medicine information to Australian healthcare professionals, known for its high level of editorial integrity and independence.”
