September was an even busier month than usual. At the recent Society of Hospital Pharmacists meeting in Darwin we launched MIMS for Android, the first application of its kind in Australia. This locally installed application works on a variety of android devices and is similar to the iMIMS product that is used on Apple devices.

Android device use is growing in healthcare. As such, we thought it important to ensure that Android device users could access up to date, Australian medicines information they could trust wherever they were. In many hospitals, black spots make internet enabled applications unusable. The lack of and quality of wireless connectivity also can reduce the utility of internet enabled applications. MIMS for Android, similarly to iMIMS is a locally installed application, meaning that the information can be searched and used directly on the device without any internet connection.

The application contains the latest MIMS medicines database as well as a tool to search Australian product images and an evidence based drug interaction tool. This means that regardless of whether you are an Apple or Android user, if you need a mobile medicines information tool, there is now one available.
