Feedback on the recently released MIMS for Android app has been outstanding, with reviewers in the Google Play store rating it 4.8 out of 5.  The app was developed in response to demand from clients, for an Australian specific locally installed Android app, which is the first of its kind.

Until now, Android users have been at a disadvantage due to the lack of a locally installed Australian medicines app.  MIMS was the first to launch a locally installed iPhone app (iMIMS) a number of years ago, but it was only in recent months that demand for an Android version had increased.  Making this available has fulfilled an unmet need of pharmacists, doctors and other healthcare professionals who work remotely or are mobile and either do not want to use or do not have access to wireless internet.

Peter Stevens, a Sydney based hospital doctor and GP, reviewed the app on Google Play and noted  “This is by far the best formulary available for prescribers. This stand alone product is now available for non Apple users. It works seamlessly - I have been waiting for this one for a while now. Thanks!”

The MIMS for Android app includes the ability to search the entire MIMS Abbreviated and Full Product Information database, as well as accessing its evidence based drug decision support tools and a comprehensive pill identifier database.  The layout of information is designed to be readable on smartphones and tablet devices of varying screen sizes and resolutions. Users can also increase and decrease the text size to suit their needs.

More information on MIMS for Android, including devices supported, is available from www.mims.com.au.  The development of MIMS for Android is core to the MIMS philosophy of enabling the healthcare workforce to have access to the most current and comprehensive medicines information whenever they need it.
